Nigeria's latest position in the Fifa World Rankings revealed

  The West African country has moved up two places in the newly-released rating despite not playing any competitive games since November 2019 Nigeria  have climbed to the 29th position in the latest Fifa rankings released by the world governing body on Thursday. The Super Eagles garnered 1493 points, same as the points acquired in the last edition released in March which ranked the West Africans 31st.   Nigeria are third in Africa behind 2019  Africa Cup of Nations  runners-up,  Senegal , who have 1555 points and  Tunisia  [1506] while  Algeria  and  Morocco  are placed fourth and fifth respectively. The West Africans last played a competitive game in November, during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers outing against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.  According to VANGUARD ONLINE  The Premier League has urged the British government to stay committed to its plans for a controlled return of fans into stadiums from Oct. 1. The government last week restricted pilot events to 1,000 spectators after a spike in COVID-19 cases, and said it would review the date for when fans could enter stadiums. The Premier League said in a statement on Thursday that clubs remain committed to ensuring stadiums will be a safe environment for supporters. “Clubs will adopt a range of common standards, which will help deliver bio-secure, safe environments for fans across the League,” the league said. Breaking: FG apologizes for asking all account holders in financial institutions to re-register

  Federal government, Friday apologized to Nigerians for asking all account holders in the financial institutions to re-register. The government had via its official twitter handle, said: “This is to notify the general public that all account holders in Financial Institutions (Banks, Insurance Companies, etc) are required to obtain, complete and submit Self – Certification Forms to their respective Financial Institutions.” Having seen Nigerians reactions therein, FG in a riposte retracted its statement and deleted its earlier tweet. Apologizing to Nigerians, FG said: “We apologize for the misleading tweets (now deleted) that went up yesterday, regarding the completion of self-certification forms by Reportable Persons. The message contained in the FIRS Nigeria Notice does not apply to everybody. FIRS will issue appropriate clarification shortly”. Details later:

  Workers shut down Arik Air operations in Lagos courtesy: PUNCH NG FILE: Arik Air Operations of Arik Air were on Monday shut down by the aviation unions over alleged non-payment of staff salaries since April. They claimed that the non-payment started after the company placed 90 per cent of the workforce on compulsory leave and other “anti-labour practices”. The unions included the National Union of Air Transport Employees and Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria. It was gathered that all Arik Air operations in Lagos were shut down, including airlines. Mr Innocent Atasie, Chairman, ATSSSAN, Arik Air Branch told  NAN  that the workers resolved to shut down Arik operations nationwide when all efforts made to resolve the problem failed. Atasie said the unions were miffed that there had been no payment of staff salaries since April after placing 90 per cent of the workforce on compulsory leave. Philippine cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, 63, had a private audience with Francis on August 29. He went on to test positive for Covid-19 on his return to Manila on September 10. “We are being prudent,” Secretary of State Pietro Parolin told ANSA news agency. “There is no particular alarm (in the Vatican)”, but the health of the head of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics was being “constantly monitored,” he added.
